Athabasca Falls

Consider this post the first of a series on the Athabasca River.

We took the Icefields Parkway from Jasper back to Lake Louise, and then the Trans-Canada from there back to Banff. Along the way, we stopped at the Athabasca Falls.

The Falls viewed from above. Not too much to see here, really.
Athabasca Falls, viewed from immediately alongside. Like on WA’s South Coast, there are many warnings about the number of people who die here. Also like WA, we saw some tourist busy getting photos on the wrong side of the fence.
The Falls.
The Falls feed into a narrow canyon, before the river widens out.
Looking up the canyon towards the Falls.
Another view of the falls.
Matt & Annelise woz here!

  1. What a beautiful area ….. the falls, the canyon, and the trees! Your photos really show the power of the water! Very spectacular!!

    1. It was well worth the stop.. on the way to Jasper we went past and we could see crowds from the road and thought it wasn’t really worth stopping… But we were wrong! And before 8am we just beat the crowds.

  2. Some beautiful photos again of a beautiful area. Such a blessing to be allowed to admire all that beauty of God’s creation. You must have a very good camera as well. I was mistakenly under the impression that Whistler was the same as Whistlers. Should have looked it up on google.

    1. No worries, one is much more famous than the other. Almost every photo on the blog, including all the ones on this post, were just taken on my phone… I did use a tripod for some though.
