Intrepid Museum

This afternoon we visited the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. It’s the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier, which is moored up at one of the piers on the Hudson River, and the USS Growler, one of the US’ first nuclear missile submarines is moored on the other side. To round it off, one of the Concorde airliners is parked on the pier.

The USS Intrepid.
Inside the Growler aft torpedo room.
The missile launcher. Compared to later SLBM designs, this one was quickly rendered obsolete, as it required the submarine to surface, slide a missile out of its hangar, and unfold the wings before launching.
Intrepid bridge and view of the flight deck.
The Enterprise space shuttle.
A Soyuz capsule. Hard to image 3 people being launched to space in this tiny thing.
Concorde.
