9/11 Memorial

We visited both the 9/11 Memorial and the 9/11 Museum today. They are both located on the site of the former World Trade Center.  The primary feature of the memorial is the two ponds/waterfalls located at the footprint of the twin towers. You should be able to see one of these in the video above.

Inscribed into the rims of the ponds are the names of the victims of the terrorist attacks. Every day, roses are placed on the names of those who would have celebrated their birthdays on that day. Water flows continuously from the outside of the ponds into the hole in the center.

In addition to the ponds, a large number of trees have been planted to create a shaded plaza. Once inside the museum, a leaf outline is used next to names to mark those who died in the attacks.

The new One World Trade Center rises alongside the memorial.
Spotted a familiar flag that someone had placed on the memorial.

  1. I’m all caught up now… Just read through the last few entries! It brought back lots of memories actually. Very, very cool!

    1. I do think that most tourists visit all the same things in New York (at least on their first visit). Glad you enjoyed reading.
