Reformed Fellowship

Today, we had the opportunity to go worship with Messiah’s Reformed Fellowship in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. This was truly a blessing, to meet and worship with Reformed Christians here in New York. I also really felt like we needed this: after close to a week in New York this was like a breath of fresh air! I may post a longer blog post on this at some point, but in the meantime, a few photos to mark the occasion, as always.

Also, apparently their minister, Pastor (Paul) Murphy, will be visiting Australia in October – he’s been in discussion with Rev. Stephen ‘t Hart.

A new experience: taking the Subway and walking to church.
MeRF meets in a building rented from a Seventh Day Adventist church.
Immediately after the second service. They have the catechism service first, then the main service immediately afterward, followed by lunch, and then often some other meetings. When everyone comes from a fair distance away (all five boroughs, Jersey, and Westchester and Long Island), it’s easier to do everything on the one day.
Enjoying a lunch of bagels and coffee after the service.
Annelise making new friends. Everyone here is very welcoming.

  1. Nice to have that experience, and it’s a blessing that you could meet other Reformed Christians there. Next Sunday, the Lord willing, you’ll be worshiping in Canada 🙂

  2. That’s nice, you spoke to Paul Murphy.
We have just read one of his articles in the Clarion, called: Orthodusty.

    What a coincidence, hey?
We are sure you had a blessed Lord’s Day.
Did you stay all day for all the activities?
    Lots of love from us.

    1. We were there from around 10.15am to 2.00pm. Because they all come from so far, they make sure they do as many activities as possible on the same day.

  3. Must have been quite an experience worshiping with other Reformed Christians on the other side of the world. Was that a Reformed church with which the Canadian Reformed Churches have sister church relations? Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. Enjoy your train trip to Hamilton tomorrow, plenty more new impressions. May the Lord keep you both safe.

    1. MeRF is a part of the United Reformed Churches, so yes, the Canadian Reformed Churches do have a sister church relationship with them, and very close ties with the URC in Canada, at least.

  4. Well what a blessing to meet and worship God with reformed Christians on the other side of the world! Shows how amazing our God and His word is! I hope yous had a lovely Sunday and may God also strengthen you both through His word! Now for another week of exploring!!

    1. Glad you’ve been enjoying the posts, and yes, a blessing indeed! We’re looking forward to escaping the big city and seeing Canada.
